The Second Continental Congress established the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, combining the military efforts of the 13 United Colonies into one unified force.  The next day, they appointed George Washington of Virginia as General and Commander-in-Chief.

The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the two City of Nederland employees who are Army veterans have been invited.  All Army veterans in Nederland are invited to attend this short ceremony.
